IWWG 34th Annual Summer Conference

I am happy to announce that I will be a workshop director for the International Women’s Writing Guild’s 34th Annual Summer Conference which will be held from June 24-July 1, 2011.

One of my workshops will be based on my book, A Writer’s Journey: What to Know Before, During, and After Writing a Book and will tell you what to know from finding a place of your own in which to write, to dealing with the mounds of paper that are unavoidable, to writer’s block and on to marketing your published book. It will also cover everything in-between.

Another will be a fun course on improving your photography. We’ll be going on a “shoot” around the campus and then discussing how the photos can be improved with simple composition adjustments. This course is based on the information I picked up will doing stock photography for many years.

The conference will be held at Yale University where forty separate workships will be offered each day. It will be open to all women regardless of professional portfolio.

Having trouble finding my book on Amazon?

Several people have emailed me saying that they had difficulty finding the second edition paperback of Married Women Who Love Women on Amazon.com. It is very frustrating but Amazon seems to be an entity unto itself and no amount of talk from my publisher will get them to correct their post.

The hardcover version (more expensive) comes up whenever MWLW is entered, and sometimes the first edition comes up. But never the second edition paperback. To find that you have to click on “other editions” and then on “paperback”. And sometimes, when that doesn’t come up, you have to click on “see used items.” The new paperbacks will then come up. That’s just how it is.

You can also search by the ISBN.

Second Edition
Hardcover – Routledge (June 2008), ISBN: 978-1-56023-790-7
Trade Paperback – Routledge (June 2008), ISBN: 978-1-56023-791-4

First Edition
Hardcover – Doubleday (January 1998), ISBN: 0385488254
Trade Paperback – Alyson (April 2000), ISBN: 1555835554

For your convenience, I have given links to all editions of my book as are available on Amazon.com, BN.com, Borders.com, Powells.com, IndieBound.com, and Overstock.com here. You can also purchase copies directly from me here.

One of the things I’ve learned…

One of the things I’ve learned while on my own journey, and which has helped me immensely, was my realization that the way people take what I say has little to do with me and everything to do with themselves. The way they react or don’t react to me has to do with where they are at the time and vica versa. If I am not ready to hear something, I’ll probably take it one way and if I’m more receptive, I’ll take it another. My mantra to most things now, (from an old Meatballs movie) is “It just doesn’t matter.”

Back from New England

Just spent the weekend in New England. The fall foliage has peeked but was still incredibly beautiful. It filled my heart and my very soul as does going down to the ocean or sitting beside a lake. A great stress reliever. I highly recommend a drive through New England’s small country roads, or any place you can still find small country roads. Take the time to meander if you want to release your daily stresses and feel both energized and relaxed.

Reminder: Fall ART SHOW Starts This Weekend!

The Fall ART SHOW sponsored by the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition will begin this Saturday, and run every weekend until October 25. This is a really nice way to spend a fun afternoon so please tell your friends about it and drop by. My son and I are both exhibiting our art work in this exciting show. Hope you all can come.

Meet the Artists Opening Day Reception
Music by Stefan Bauer Voyage and other special events every day of the show

Our 25,000 square foot gallery space is in a Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront. The vista of New York Harbor , spanning the Statue of Liberty to the Verrazano Bridge , is one of the best in the city. Enjoy the nearby restaurants, bars and Fairway Market along Van Brunt St . With every medium and style of artwork represented, from the traditional to the cutting edge, our shows are as spectacular as the setting. It’s also a great place to find affordable art (as cited by Crain’s NY and SmartMoney).
